| The tourists who get to play Golf in Argentina will be able to visit this magnifies Estancias.
Hidden away in a northern valley of the Sierras
Grandes, 1,200 metres high and 150 kilometres
from the city of Córdoba, in the Cruz
del Eje district, lies the Jesuit Estancia
of La Candelaria. This Estancia was started
thanks to the land grant obtained by Captain
García de Vera y Mujica at the beginning
of the 17th century on the banks of the Guamanes
River (now called de la Candelaria River).
This property was then donated by his son
to the Padres de la Compañía
de Jesús, who took possession in 1683.
From then on, the order bought some adjoining
land until they possessed 300,000 hectares
which stretch from the Cumbre de Achala
to the Soto lowlands.
The estancia is called La Candelaria
in honour to the Virgen de las Candelas (the Virgen of the Candelas), who is commemorated
on February 2nd every year. The Jesuit Fathers
applied their organizational experience there.
They equipped and developed a great livestock
centre, specialized in the raising and wintering
of mules. Estate managers and other people
in charge worked in numerous "puestos" (outposts) and also in rodeos, where cattle,
horses, sheep and pigs multiplied.
