The
northern area is linked to Córdoba and its
history. For four centuries it has left testimonies
which nowadays deserve to be known. They are woven
in a landscape of hills and streams, with indigenous
flora and birdsong. The area treasures one of the
most significant archeological sites in the country:
The Cerro Colorado mountain, in which the
aboriginal settlement left traces of their culture
in paintings spread on rocky eaves and walls.
There
are also signs of our colonial past in the Jesuit Estancia
of Santa Catalina as well as along the trail of the
ancient Camino Real al Alto Perú (the Royal
Road to the Alto Perú), with a series of villages
that used to be staging posts in which travelers stopped
overnight. Those villages still keep architectural remains,
traditions, handicrafts, productive methods inherited
from both colonial time and the 19th century, still vital
in the area.
The Northern Area invites us to live the present time
by recovering the past, with its traditions, religious
feasts and folk festivals, and an unhurried life in harmony
with nature.
